Mt. Baker is a diverse neighborhood with residential, commercial and light industrial and is one of the fastest growing in the city. Local residents think of it as the Barkley Village area with most of the commercial area being in Barkley Village or along Sunset Drive. Both areas boast shops, restaurants, banks and services. The northern part of the neighborhood is mostly light industrial along Hannegan Road while the east side of the community is residential.
There is a mix of single family and multi-family residences, most having been built in the past 20 years in very well planned subdivisions. Many homes are built on the hill giving them amazing views over the city and the bay. There are several well-established neighborhoods as well as some newer condominiums. The streets have very light traffic and are lined with nice homes and well-manicured lawns.
